ESPRIT 2009 Obsolete List

Add-ins

Inventor Link Add-In: This function is now built directly into the software.
Charmilles Technology Manager: This function is now built directly into the software.
CAD File Monitor Add-In: This function is now built directly into the software.
Monster Add-In: Planned for retirement in ESPRIT 2010. This add-in will be changed into macros in ESPRIT 2010.
EDM Features Add-In: Planned for retirement in ESPRIT 2010. This add-in will be changed into macros in ESPRIT 2010.
Group Manager Add-In: Planned for retirement in ESPRIT 2010. This add-in will be changed into macros in ESPRIT 2010.

Documentation

Setup Sheet: Removed. The retirement of the Setup Sheet was announced in ESPRIT 2006 and removed in ESPRIT 2009. Setup Sheet was replaced in ESPRIT 2006 with the Report Generator. All technology now supports the Report Generator.

SolidWire

Feature Group: Removed. The Feature Group function that appeared on the Feature toolbar when a legacy EDM machine type was selected has been removed. Since ESPRIT 2009 no longer supports legacy EDM technology there is no need for this function. All modern EDM operations support the Feature Group added in ESPRIT 2008.
Corner Change: Removed. The Corner Change function that appeared on the SolidWire Gold toolbar when a legacy EDM machine type was selected has been removed. Corner Change was a legacy concept that allowed the user to change the corner style of a taper cut directly on the tool path. In the modern EDM toolkit, corner changes are made at the feature level, not directly on the tool path.
EDM4 Feature Solid and EDM4 Feature Wire Frame: Removed. These two functions that appeared on the SolidWire Platinum toolbar when a legacy EDM machine type was selected have been removed. These were the original EDM 4-axis features created for ESPRIT. This set of functionality was only maintained for the legacy EDM operations. Since all legacy EDM machine types have been updated to the latest EDM toolkit, these functions are no longer needed. The modern EDM toolkit uses 4-axis EDM features created from the Feature toolbar using the Draft Feature Recognition functionality.

SolidWire

Agie Technology (Agie 123 and AgieVision)

All Agie technology pages have been replaced with the latest EDM tool path functionality and user interface.
New Agie operations can only be programmed on 2-axis or 4-axis features created using the Draft Feature Recognition function or chain features (2-axis operations only).
Files created in versions previous to ESPRIT 2009 will only be allowed to post. Editing and rebuilding the technology is not permissible.

Brother Technology

This machine type is fully supported by the Generic Technology. If you open a legacy operation it will be Brother Technology, but you will not be able to program a new operation with this technology. Like all legacy technology, you will only be able to post code. The user cannot edit or create a legacy technology.

Add-Ins

API

Custom Spindle API: CustomeSpindleSolids object is obsolete. It is replaced by CustomMachineSolids and the SpindleLocation property defines the axis or jaw to which the solid is attached

Demo Gallery/World Conference Folder

The Demo Gallery - World Conference material that is typically included on the CD will no longer exist. This material will be available exclusively on ESPRITWeb.

Interface

ESPRIT uses an automated stretch routine to dynamically adjust the size of dialog boxes for differences in locales. With the use of a localization tool, translation partners will have direct access to the layout and size of dialogs. Automated stretching will be removed from ESPRIT 2008.

Installation

Service Pack installations will not support a separate Add/Remove Program entry.

KnowledgeBase Engine

Selection of the KBM server during installation is no longer possible. To prevent database corruption and incompatibility, the KnowledgeBase database will always be installed locally. Systems being served from a SQL Server master KBM database will have to update the KBM locally before reattaching the database to the server.

Operating Systems

ESPRIT 2007 is the last release of ESPRIT to support Windows 2000.

Obsolete Operations in ESPRIT 2007

SolidTurn

Two SolidTurn cycles have been removed.

Pocketing: This cycle has been removed from the software. This functionality is now included in the SolidTurn Roughing cycle.
Copy Roughing: This cycle has been removed from the software. This functionality is now included in the SolidTurn Roughing cycle.

SolidWire

Charmilles Technology (includes Charmilles, Charmilles-Fanuc, and Charmilles-Millenium controls)

New Charmilles operations cannot be programmed on legacy feature types (EDM2 Feature Groups, EDM4 Feature Wire Frame, EDM4 Feature Solid, and independent features for XY and UV programming). These feature types will be disabled on the interface when programming under Charmilles.

Mitsubishi Technology

Files created in versions previous to ESPRIT 2007 and ESPRIT \W files loaded into ESPRIT 2007 will only be allowed to post. Editing and rebuilding the technology is not permissible.
TL files created in versions previous to ESPRIT 2007 and ESPRIT \W files are not loadable into ESPRIT 2007 Mitsubishi technology pages.
New Mitsubishi operations cannot be programmed on legacy feature types (EDM2 Feature Groups, EDM4 Feature Wire Frame, EDM4 Feature Solid, and independent features for XY and UV programming). These feature types will be disabled on the interface when programming under Mitsubishi.

Sodick Technology

Sodick operations created since ESPRIT 2006 cannot be programmed on legacy feature types (EDM2 Feature Groups, EDM4 Feature Wire Frame, EDM4 Feature Solid, and independent features for XY and UV programming). These feature types will be disabled on the interface when programming under Sodick.

ESPRIT 2006 Obsolete List

SolidWire

All technology pages: Removed the setting for Die from Machining Strategy. Since all cuts are created separately, this strategy is a duplicate of the Die[Rough][Cut-Off][Skim] strategy.
Draft Feature: Removed the orientation for CW and CCW. The feature direction is not important to the creation of the feature. The direction of cut is defined on the technology page. All features will be created CCW.

Post Processor Library

The current Post Processor Library has been removed from the installation of ESPRIT. Legacy post files are available on the CD under LegacyPosts.zip. A new post library of known and proven post processors will be created and maintained on ESPRITWeb.

SolidTurn

Machine Setup: Sequential Output Order has been removed. Output by Head is the same as sequential output.

Demo Mode

KnowledgeBase: ESPRIT 2005 allowed the trial use of the full KnowledgeBase when the security module was unplugged. This is no longer possible.

Documentation

Setup Sheet: Will be removed over the next release cycle.
Tip of the Day: Removed. This is not part of the current software design.
Examples: Removed all ESPRIT examples for parts, templates, and VBA examples and tutorials. This content is now available on ESPRITWeb.

Obsolete Operations in ESPRIT 2006

The following operations are obsolete and have been replaced in functionality. These are operations that users can no longer create.

SolidWire

AgieVision Technology

The oldest of the two technologies for AgieVision has been removed
Users are now supported under the AgieVision (New Strategies) technology

Hitachi Technology

Hitachi-specific technology has been removed
This technology is now supported under Generic technology

Generic Technology

The oldest of the two technologies for Generic has been removed
Users are now supported under the Generic (New Strategies) technology

SolidMillTurn

The SolidMillTurn Legacy toolbar has been removed for all existing cycles. The functionality has been replaced with new cycles.

SolidTurn

SolidTurn Grooving has been replaced with a completely new cycle. The new cycle has the same functionality but removes the limitations of the old cycle.

Legacy Operations

Legacy operations are operations that have been replaced with new technology operations. Legacy operations are supported on a limited basis. They exist "as is" and will not be corrected, maintained, or developed. Legacy operations remain in the software for a limited time (typically 1 release cycle) to allow the user to adapt to the new technology without losing productivity.
